AUGUST 2010

FUN DAY 15 AUG 2010

The sun shone, the people of Kilbirnie headed to the Vale and a great time was had by all, despite the obstacles which were put in our way on the day

All the KCFC teams at U7s,8s,9s,10s,11s x 2,12s,13s and 11s,13s,17s girls had invited teams along to play with the U17s girls kicking off the proceedings in a league game against East Kilbride-:

A great performance by each and every player  from number 1 to number 11 battling through from the 1st minute to last securing a fantastic victory with goals scored in each half, firstly by Louise Welsh following some great build up play & what turned out to be the eventual winner scored by Jillian Humphrey with a fantastic chipped finish as she cut in from right hand side which went into top left hand corner.

Delighted for girls who continue to battle away, and received a nice comment from an East Kilbride player, who said that we thoroughly deserved our win & that she felt our team spirit was brilliant. Well done girls

With the 7s 10s,11s and girls 11s/13s welcoming their opposition and preparing to play, the U8s, 9s,11sCougars,and 12s waited and it soon became apparent that the 4 teams from Woodwynd Wolves who were scheduled to play them were not going to show, likewise the Tass team who were to play the U13s at 11-a-side, so a few phone calls later, the 8s played the 9s, the 11s Cougars had enough players for 2 teams to play each other, the 12s played the 13s at 7-a-side then reversed the fixture at 11-a side so everyone got a good kick at the ball and had lots of fun in the process although were disappointed in not being able to play their arranged games

Off the park the rides and face painting kept the smaller children happy, the beat the goalie and wet sponge throw gave the young players a chance to get their own back on their coaches whilst the raffle, guess the age of the bear and bottle stall gave everyone a chance to win the mountain bike kindly donated by R T Cycles of Glengarnock, Blastie bear and lots of bottles courtesy of Alan Wilson and the KCFC teams.

The NAL Activator gave its health checks of blood pressure, pulse rate, lung strength, height ,weight and body fat so anyone calling in got a good m.o.t. The burger and ice cream vans did a roaring trade whilst the busy beer tent helped quench everyones thirst in the scorching sun

A great day enjoyed by all, thanks to everyone who helped out on the day, also all who attended.

                                                             See you all next year

SUMMER CAMP 2010

KCFC's summer camp for 2010 ran rom the 9th to 13th August at the Vale where Kilbirnie Ladeside kindly loaned the pitch for the budding footballers to try out their skills.

Good numbers turned up to the camp each day for the two sessions 10am till 12 and 1pm to 3pm and after a dull Mondayand a wettish Tuesday, the weather improved ending up with glorious sunshine on the last day (Friday) where everyone enjoyed themselves to the end.

All sessions managed to be completed outdoors and the attendees had a great time putting much effort into each of the day's themes

Thanks go tho the coaches Robbie, Mark and Andrew and others who gave up time to call in and help out the odd day also to all the players for turning up with a good attitude, working hard and having fun and making the week the success it was.

Leonardo Da Vinci Visit--- Denmark 2010

Friday 7 th May pm visit to TARNBY local grassroots club :- S Wilson

Tarnby Football club has a long history dating back to 1917 during which time various links with other local clubs have been tried over the years. Most didn’t work out and Tarnby ended up on its own again but a strong link with Aarmaar took place around 1970 and finally in 2009, AB TARNBY 2009 was formed with Tarnby FC and Aarmaar FC losing their own identities.

With 55000 people in the community there are 4 or 5 football clubs in the area but with 1400 playing members, Tarnby are rated as the 5 th biggest club in Denmark and have activities for all age groups from U5s mini kickers up to the grand old masters at over 65s.

The facilities are first class, the clubhouse, meeting rooms and restaurant building is adjoined by numerous pitch areas, astro pitches and 2 stadium pitches for the first teams.

Including the “west “ area which is across the road from the clubhouse there are approx 8 11-a-side, 8 7-a-side, numerous 5-a- side and fun areas plus the floodlit astro and 2 stadia . Pitches are allocated free of charge to the member teams and training is allowed on the pitches. With so many members and other sports competing for the facilities this pitch allocation process can have its problems, but times, days etc are submitted and decisions made. The facilities are owned by the local community council and maintained by them. Any improvements , alterations etc have to be agreed by the council and carried out by them when the budget allows rather than the club just getting on with it and this can be frustrating.

Having 1400 players, it requires a large number of volunteers to keep things going and this can be a problem at times. Parents are asked to become involved when their kids are an early age, come and coach for fun, then maybe later on some will take coach education courses which are arranged locally. Parents info packs give basic induction information, then a simple manual of 10 drills is handed out to them to give them something to start on.

The age groups play as follows 5/6 3 v 3, 7-9 5 v 5, 10/11 7 v 7, 12/13 9 v 9, 14 upwards 11 v 11. From 5/6 to U10 (2000) its fun football playing with their pals and parents coaching. From 11 upwards they get a proper coach to work with the parents, he takes the A team but keeps an eye on B C or D teams. Proper coaching is introduced and at Tarnby this coach moves up the years with the team, but this is not stipulated as a must in Denmark The coaches are looked after by the club, particularly by way of coach education courses which are not cheap in Denmark .

By the time the kids reach U14 level they think about 70% of boys are playing football with a grassroots club or better, a fantastic statistic.

As well as providing the facilities free of charge, the council offer funding for every member under the age of 25, at a rate of 125 kroner per year-about £15. The club also has its yearly membership fees which range from 1600 k (£200) for adults, 1200 for 19-14s, 1000 for 11-13s and 600 for the youngsters. The parents don’t need to join but can be active on the kids membership even having voting rights on behalf of the child up to the age of 18’

Tarnby is on the outskirts of Copenhagen and by our standards the facilities are excellent but further West say in Jutland the clubs are even better looked after. A town of 25000 population has an indoor pool, indoor football ,21 grass pitches, hotel accommodation and they are building a new astro . Lots of money available for sport in the West of Denmark

As players progress, the good players are poached by the bigger licensed clubs but this is taken as a fact of life in Denmark and to some extent encouraged because the development of a player is a top priority for them. Tarnby’s most famous son is Nicolas Bentner now with Arsenal who left the club before he was 12 but still comes back and has his own soccer camp as well as being a beneficiary of the club.

Conclusion: - Although the facilities and organisation of the club were outstanding, it was in some way refreshing to see that at grassroots level they do still have minor problems to sort out—allocation of pitches, training times, volunteer recruitment etc, but with everything Danish apparently geared up to a healthy/sporting existence, these are soon sorted. We as community clubs in Scotland can not change societies habits and attitude to sport and healthy living, but we can pick a few pointers in encouraging parental involvement, providing information and education and inviting more kids to participate. Without the kids playing there is no club so we need to improve player recruitment, monitoring, development and lastly identifying the elite player in our midst and giving him the opportunity to progress. Ghua !!

Lions New Away Strip

KCFC Ladeside LionsU11s away fixture against West Kilbride on Sat 15th May was switched to the Vale and both teams put up a good game trying to play football. Tony Gallagher scored first for KCFC but WK equalised before half time. In the second half the WK keeper pulled off a number of great saves but the Lions ran in 3 goals through Scott Maxwell and Kevin Monaghan to run out winners by the odd goal in 7.
The Lions played this game in their new away kit sponsored by MM Landscape and would like to put up a big thank you to Stevie for his donation which is very much appreciated by the team.

February 2010

KCFC GIRLS SECTION :- start up and Presentation   Sun 21st Feb

The girls section will be playing friendlies on Sunday 21st Feb at the Vale. Kicking off at Noon, the U11's & 13's will play 7-a-side against Ayr United, whilst the U17s will be on the 11-a-side pitch playing Kilwinning.

The KCFC teams are then having their presentation from last season in the clubhouse pavilion at 2pm.

Come along and give your support.

AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED:-

KCFC U9 s and U11s girls had a joint presentation for their hard work and great efforts last season at the Vale on Sunday 21st Feb. Friendly matches against Ayr Utd had to be postponed because of the frost but there was still a great turnout with 25 girls and parents in attendance to see the players receive their trophies.

Well done to all the girls and good luck for the new season ahead when you will be playing at U11 and U13 age groups.

--------------------------

The Girls Under 17's presentation was also held in Ladeside Pavillion for the season 2009 and prior to that they played a friendly against Kilwinning Girls. Despite a hard pitch, a good workout to blow away the winter cobwebs saw the girls go down 5 - 1, but it was good to get their first game played prior to the season getting underway with a opening league fixture at the Vale on Sunday March 7th versus Celtic FC.

Picture shows the team who will participate in the South West Scoltand under 17's league.

The girls  then held their presentation, details as follows:-

December 2009

Ladeside Lions Presentation Day

The KCFC Ladeside LionsU11s held their football presentation at Vale Park on Sunday 20th December 2009.  We had two 'local sportsmen' present the kids with their trophies, Stevie Miller & Paul Bell from Kilbirnie Ladeside.

We would like to relay a big thanks for Stevie & Paul for giving up their free time to come along & present the kids with their trophies, the kids were delighted.

Stevie & Paul also gave their appreciation to the people behind the scenes, volunteers, parents & coaches, Tommy
Burns & Colin Monk, who without people like them they wouldn't have kids coming through the football pathway to hopefully play professionally in years to come.

The Ladeside Lions U11's have had a great season so far, winning-11, draws-2 & lost-5, all with fabulous team performance throughout the season.
