K.C.F.C Presentation Day - 31st May 2009

Kilbirnie Community Football Club held its first ever Presentation Day on Sunday 31st May at Garnock Labour Social Club, and teams from U7s through to U21s were well represented.

The member teams had a choice as to making this event their main Presentation Day, or to come along and support the day, but hold their own presentations at a later date. The girls section play summer football so fell in the latter category, others had not finished their season and did likewise, but even so all the players were recognised with participation medals and presented with KCFC t shirts from the Community Club.

The teams were well supported by parents , grandparents and friends to the extent that the presentation had to be done in two sections, the first for the U7s to U10s, then followed by the U11s to U21s. Even so, the GLC was well filled on a hot sunny day---too hot to be inside!

An information programme was given out to all in attendance, to raise awareness and inform everyone of the role of KCFC in the community, and these will be available throughout the town over the next few days/weeks so please read if you get an opportunity.

Stevie Wilson compared the event and kept things ticking over whilst club chairman Wullie McKinnon made the welcoming speech. John Brown (SFA Community Club Development Manager ) made a rousing and entertaining speech about KCFC and its success in the SFA Quality Mark scheme, getting some surprising and sometimes amusing answers from the young players as he interacted and questioned why they play football and what they get out of being a part of the KCFC "family". The closing remarks came from our other guest namely Mr Kenny Gibson (MSP). In between all these the teams did their own awards with every player introduced by the team coaches as they went up onto the stage to receive their medal and t -shirt. The coach also took this opportunity to update on how his team was doing and plans for the future.

The first group included the new Under 8s for season 2009-10 (year 2002) who are stepping up from the KCFC Soccer school which is a great success every Saturday morning at the Vale. The U8s, 9s 10s and 10s Lions made up the group. Ladeside player Robbie Cochrane (Soccer School Co ordinator) was on hand to present the prizes helped by Marc McKinnon, whilst some teams brought their own "celebrity" to present their awards.
The teams have struggled this season with the weather to get any momentum going and particiption awards to all the players was the order of the day for the u8s,9s and Lions.

The U10s who have had a competitive and successful season in the Central league also presented their Most Improved Player to Dylan Higgins, Top Goalscorer to Grant Thorburn, Players Player of the Year to Lee Jamieson and their Player of the Year was shared by Shaun Wigzell and Lee Jamieson.

The second group followed the same format, the girls section although at the beginning of the season showed great support for the event with the U11s ( currently incorporating the U9s) and the U17s in attendance, whilst the boys U11s,12s,14s and 21s added their contributions.

The U11s and 12s were introduced and they were awarded participation medals along with their t-shirts, the U14s and 21s made this their presentation day and added a few extra awards as follows:- U14s with still one game to play, their top goalscorer is Stuart Gray who with 37 goals is looking for a hat trick in the last game to make it 40. Their Most improved Player was Kyle Calderwood and Players Player of the Year went to Gordon Reid.
KCFC Ryside U21s sadly reached the end of the road this season with only 3 local lads in the squad, hardly enough to keep going. The Most Improved player was Stuart Brown, Clubman Award Marc Gallagher, Players Player of the Year John Chappelle and Player of the year was split between Kevin Price and John Chappelle.
Steve Wilson finished off with an update on the U16s, The Bowery, and the two new teams for this/ next season, the Over 35s who have won their first 2 games and play on a Friday night and the new KCFC Amateurs who start up very very soon, and John McMillan talked about his "KITS FOR AFRICA" project where any unwanted strips/ jerseys can be handed in to KCFC or the library and we will forward on to Uganda for the kids there

With the closing remarks made, most teams move on to next season with optimism, but the message came through loud and clear, the teams need more players, more helpers and the community club is looking for volunteers too, particularly in the fields of web site design and grant application searches.

Please try get hold of one of the leaflets,(or click here) also there are up to 50 photos of the event on the web site gallery , so check them out and find all you need to know about KCFC within the web site pages.
